about 'the sound of modesty'
London Singer-songwriter Yvonne Han started creating as ‘The Sound of Modesty’ in 2018. Known for both her candid lyrics and unique take on indie rock, she continuously blends avant-garde and modernist electronic j-rock elements in her music.
From an early age Yvonne was immersed into the world of classical music, learning instruments alongside her sisters. However despite her proficiency, she despised the pressure and competition that it came with, instead hoping to become a writer.
Her turning point eventually came during the winter of 2016, when she formed an indie-rock band with her friends. One year later, and Yvonne had started developing her own exclusive songwriting style, influenced strongly by experimental female artists like Mitski, Björk, and electronic pop artists like T.a.T.u and EGOIST, and for the first time, she started to enjoy music.
Initially resembling softer pop such as Sleeping At Last and Regina Spektor, she independently released her debut EP ‘Eye, The Cauldron of Morning’ in 2018 under the pseudonym ‘The Sound of Modesty’. After finally building up the courage to pursue music full time, she followed up with her sophomore project ‘Metamorphosize’ in 2020.
Now studying Music Production at Leeds Conservatoire, Yvonne is finishing off her debut concept album alongside her session band, with its first two singles ‘Stalemate’ and ‘Warm Floors/Cold Bodies’ having been released during lockdown, and the third, 'As All Things Should Be' set to release on November 6th.
